A Boost switch dramatically increases gain and overdrive.īlack Vox grill cloth was used on the Pathfinder 15R from 2002 through 2008, but a change made was by the factory to brown Vox grill cloth in mid 2008. In addition to Gain, Volume, Treble, and Bass Controls, the P15R even includes Tremolo and spring based Reverb. Later Vox models in the low to mid price range would drop the use of gold string.Īlthough solid state, this amp had an amazing tube like tone. It has all the vintage style Vox cosmetics right, including gold string in the cabinet sides, top, and bottom. ![]() This was one of my favorite amps from Vox, despite it's low price. After more than twelve years of production, Vox finally retired the P15R Pathfinder Reverb in January 2013. That amp disappeared shortly after the Pathfinder 15R was introduced. This amp was an updated version of the Pathfinder without reverb that was originally introduced by Vox in 1999. The Pathfinder 15R was a small solid state 1x8" 15 watt combo amp that was introduced by Vox in 2000. The PRRI can sound similar at low volume clean tones - but again, the feel is totally different - the PRRI has a bouncy/spongy attack to it and doesn't feel anything like a Pathfinder. Going from memory, the AC15 had a fast attack but wasn't as fast and wasn't as warm and rich - it was more chimey and cutting. To me the Pathfinder's attack is immediate and the tone, like the you said, very warm and rich - I think that's the magic of this amp - super fast attack with incredible warmth. More importantly, neither had the same feel. Though the AC15 was closer, neither really duplicated the tones of the Pathfinder. I've previously owned an AC15 and a PRRI. Vendo un amplificador vox pathfinder 15r. but I LOVE it! It's just a fun, great sounding little amp. I have one of the first ones and it doesn't have reverb - and the tremolo stopped working over a decade ago. I'm a VERY long time Pathfinder 15 owner/player. But is the cult right I think it´s a fantastic little transistor amp but can it stand a test with a Vox. Played the ac15hw1, ac4hw1, and probably more than I can recall. The small Vox Pathfinder 15R is becoming a cult amp. Note: I have owned the ac15cc1, ac15c1, ac15tbx, ValveTech Hayseed15 (ef86). I am just wondering if there is an amp out there that most resembles the Pathfinder tonally. This post is not one of those "hey my solid state amp is as good as a boo-tek tube amp" threads. But just love the low volume breakup, chime to grind (with a pedal). I have played it into bigger cabs loaded with GB's, Blues, and Golds. I saw a post ages ago that stated he thought of it as a Princeton Reverb with chimey mids. What tube amp does the Pathfinder most sound like? I have owned lots of Voxes and clones, but feel this is warmer, richer in a way. My question here is a somewhat serious one. Seriously, I have owned amps costing 1500 plus and time and time again I sneak away to play the ol' Pathy. It's like my alone time in the basement safe place. ![]() I have no mods other than it is loaded with an 8" alnico Blue Pup. Ya, I know, it's a practice amp that I picked up for less than 100 bucks years and years ago.but I dig it after all these years.
